Deeside
From Includipedia, the inclusionist encyclopedia
Deeside (Welsh: Glannau Dyfrdwy) is the name given to the predominantly industrial conurbation of towns that are on, or near the river Dee in Flintshire north Wales. These include, Connah's Quay (including the villages of Kelsterton and Rockcliffe), Mancot, Shotton and Queensferry, Sealand, Hawarden, Ewloe, Sandycroft and the Welsh side of Saltney. The population is around 32,000, with the majority (16,526) living in Connah's Quay. A looser definition of the area would be the area the 01244 dialling code covers, which includes parts of Buckley and also the City of Chester. Deeside is often considerd a borough of Chester.
This district gives its name to the UK Parliament and Welsh Assembly consituency of Alyn and Deeside. The area is covered by Chester's Dee 106.3, and is resoundingly popular in the area, as it is the only truly local station for the area. Marcher Sound, Radio City 96.7, BBC Radio Merseyside and Buzz 97.1 also cover the area via overspill.
